Reducing healthcare associated infection (HCAI)

Public fears about Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium difficile (C.Diff) has brought the issue of infection control to the fore and cutting rates of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) is a key priority.

There are many challenges ahead if the NHS is to meet the Government's target of ‘no avoidable infections' and increase public confidence.

In July 2007, the Government announced extra funding to help tackle HCAIs for programmes which make a measurable impact and where frontline staff are involved in the decision-making process.

New developments

The Improvement Foundation is now offering a Reducing Healthcare Associated Infections Out of Hospital Programme to help tackle HCAIs in care homes. The support complements the existing work already taking place locally and nationally. View our short film on the work we are doing in this area.
